Something Completely Different
The telephone begins to ring just as you are dumping a second batch of popcorn into a huge plastic bowl. "Hello?" You balance the phone in the crook of your neck as you put the butter on to melt.
"Hello my lovely," you can hear Adam's smile over the phone. "How soon can you be here?"
"Where?"
"My place."
"Well I was going to ask you the same thing."
"Come over there?"
"Uh huh," you take the butter off the range and begin to pour it over the popcorn.
"But...Love, I've got the candles all set up. Gourmet meal almost ready to come out. New satin sheets on the bed."
"Oh."
"What did you have planned?"
"Not much, just me and you, a big bowl of popcorn. The Python Biography on A & E followed by a Flying Circus marathon."
"Hmm," you can almost hear his eyebrows lift in interest. "Holy Grail too?"
"There might be."
A half-hour later, Adam takes the popcorn bowl from you and sits it on the table next to the sofa. He turns the mute button off on the television as the program starts. You stretch across the couch, pillowing your head in his lap. He slips one hand into your hair and the other into the popcorn bowl. He retrieves a small amount and hand feeds it to you. When the food is gone, you hold his wrist and lick the remaining butter and salt from his fingers. He smiles slyly down on you, then bends over and returns the favor, kissing away the lingering flavor.
