Documented
"Are you ready?"
"I don't know about this Adam."
He crooks his arm and offers it to you. "It'll be fine."
A documentary crew has been following Adam around for the better part of a week. They are doing a special about him. You've been as conveniently out of town for as long as you could get away with. You've missed the heck out of Adam. When he invited you to dinner, video escort or not, you couldn't refuse.
Smiling as best you can as the two of you pass the cameraman, you enter the restaurant and take a booth at the back. This is harder than you thought. You're self-conscious about eating on camera and there's nothing you can think of to talk about that you really won't care about being broadcast for millions and preserved for all history.
Adam seems likewise unenthusiastic about the media presence. Normally, right about now he'd have a heavy play of footsie going on, but the tablecloth is too short too hide that from the prying eye of the camera lens.
After a week apart, all the two of you really want is some serious alone time. You see a twinkle of mischief in Adam's eyes as he pays for the barely eaten meal. The camera follows you two to the park across the street. Adam hails a horse drawn carriage for a romantic ride, knowing full well they only make them just big enough for two, ensuring close quarters. The two of you climb in and the cameraman sets up in the center of the park, placing himself in the middle of the circuit you will be following.
"Alone at last," Adam purrs as he stretches his arm behind you.
"But not for long."
"Long enough to buy me some time to think about what to do next. I wish I'd never listened to my manager about this." His momentary frustration is soon wiped away by a lopsided smile. The arm behind you slides down to perch on your hip and his lips come to nibble on your neck.
"You're the magician...can't you make him disappear or something?"
"Bill Bixby was The Magician. I'm just a simple illusionist who could get 25 to life by making him disappear the way I'm thinking of just now."
"Surely you could just go home to bed?"
Adam shakes his head. "Guy's been sleeping on my couch all week. And if you go into the room with me...he's going to be listening...and the next morning."
"I know. It'll be "And this is what the famous Mr. Klaus looks like after a nice night of...." You sigh. "Well, how much longer are they supposed to be taping you?"
"Two days."
You pout. "That's two days too long. I don't think I can wait that much longer."
He smiles wickedly. "I've got a great idea. Can you wait a couple of more hours?" When you nod, he kisses you and then reaches into his jacket pocket for his cell phone. "Hello? Jonathan, it's me. I have a huge favor to ask of you."
After the carriage ride, the cameraman rejoins you. Adam's driver goes straight to your house. A long kiss later and you are waving to Adam and the camera from the curb outside your door.
From your place, he instructs the driver to return to his home, where the phone is ringing as he enters. "Hello? Jonathan? Can't it wait? I just got home and I'm tired." After a pause, he sighs. "Very well. If you insist." Adam hangs up the phone and turns to the camera. "That was my illusion designer. I'm afraid he wants to go over some of the new illusions for the upcoming tour. When did you say this would air again?"
The cameraman momentarily stops running film and looks at him. "End of the month."
"Ah, I'm afraid you can't come then."
"Now wait a minute. The contract..."
"Clearly states that I am fully allowed to ban you from filming me in areas where I will be naked such as a shower, areas where I am semi-clothed such as in bed, or from areas conducive to prematurely unveiling my illusions before the public has a chance to see them in the show. So I'm banning you. You're perfectly welcome to ride up with me if you like the idea of filming the outside of an old windmill in the dark but after that the driver will take you to the Lakeshore Hotel, 15 kilometers up the road."
Reluctantly, the cameraman agrees and follows Adam outside and into the car. A 20 minute drive places them outside of Jonathan Creek's front door. Adam steps out, closes the car door and knocks. The cameraman films Jonathan letting Adam inside before the driver pulls away.
Jonathan rubs wearily at his eyes as he walks Adam to the sofa where you are waiting with a smile. The curly haired man smiles sleepily. "Keep it down you two. Some of us actually need our sleep."
As he pads his way upstairs, Adam sits beside you. His arms come around you and he kisses you enthusiastically.
