I Wanna Kiss the Bride
Today is your wedding day. You adjust your veil and take one last look at your single self in the mirror. As you are about to turn the bedroom doorknob, you think you hear a rapping coming from the French doors across the room. You shake your head. That can't be possible. The room you are in is on the second floor and there are no stairs leading to it from the backyard.
The rapping however is persistent and soon you take your hand from the doorknob and walk over. Carefully you pull back the curtain and find Adam Klaus smiling at you. You let the curtain fall back and take a couple of steps away.
You and Adam had been together for a very long time before you had the big argument that ended everything two months ago. You met your fiancee a week later. A whirlwind of flowers and gifts and attention followed that and led you to where you are right now. You let yourself be swept in it with no second thoughts of any kind...until today.
You take a deep breath and open the door. Adam walks in and sits on the bed. "Hey," you say.
"Hey yourself." He pats the bed beside him. After a moment's hesitation, you sit.
"How'd you get up here?"
He smiles. "Magic," he purrs, producing a white rose from out of thin air.
"Uh huh." You hold the flower in both hands to keep them steady.
"You look beautiful by the way."
"Thanks," you shrug, staring at the flower to avoid eye contact.
"So...are you really going to go through with this?"
You sigh as the butterflies in your stomach that proximity to Adam have always brought bounce back to life. "Probably." You sneak a look at him and see that a hopeful grin has brightened his face.
"I don't understand it. Four years with me and we have one argument..."
"It wasn't just one argument. It was the big finale in a long series of arguments."
He takes your shoulders in his hands and turns you to face him. "Tell me you don't love me anymore."
Your smile is sad. "I can't do that."
"Then why are you marrying him?"
You gently stroke his cheek. "Because, *he* asked me." Adam looks as if you just slapped him across the face. "He's ready to commit to something permanent for the future and so am I. I wanted that to be with you but you wouldn't even talk about it. That's what our fights were all about Adam. We'd been together for so long that I was ready to start at least discussing where we should go next and I swear every time I even hinted at it you'd do some stupid obnoxious..." Your sentence is stopped when he pulls you tightly against him and kisses you.
"Marry me instead."
"Adam..."
"Do you love him more than you love me?"
"It's not as simple as..." He places a finger to your lips.
Adam nods his head and smiles at you. "Yes it is. You know it is. I know that I will never feel for anyone what I feel for you and when I look into your eyes, I know you feel the same way about me. Can you deny that and not be lying?" Hesitating a moment, you simply shake your head. "Marry me then," he moves his hand away.
"When?"
"Tonight."
"No Adam."
"Then let's see...my tour ends in August so pick any date in September and we'll make it whatever Saturday is closest to it."
"If I agree."
He grins. "If you don't, I'm going to have to kidnap you. I've had a taste of being without you. I've come face to face with the idea of walking down the street and seeing you on the other side holding hands with someone else, knowing I would never be a part of your life again." He brushes your hair back. "I just can't do that. I can't live with that. Save me. Save us. Say yes."
You wrap your arms around him and struggle to keep the tears at bay. "Oh Adam, you're so melodramatic."
"Say yes Love."
You nod against his neck. "Yes."
He pulls back. "That's not good enough. Set a date or I won't think you're serious," he smiles.
"Okay, September 20th."
"Right, we'll look up the calendar as soon as I get you home." Suddenly, a loud banging starts on the bedroom door.
"You're late dear," you hear the voice of your now never-to-be (thank goodness) sister-in-law. "Did you need some help?"
"Uh...just a minute."
Adam tugs on your arm and slings you over his shoulder. With his hand sliding up your leg under the skirt of the dress, he makes his way to the balcony. Once there, you look over the side and see a wooden ladder leaning up against the building.
"Magic huh?"
