New Millennium
Adam stands on the karaoke stage of the little club he has rented out to host his New Year's Eve party for his stage crew. He is dressed in velvet, satin and leather, blue and black in color. You stand just to the right of the stage, looking up at him as he finishes his rendition of Prince's "1999". He said he just had to get that one in one more time.
You are wearing a violet dress that he bought you a birthday or three back. You were late arriving and are somewhat hoping he hasn't noticed you've gotten there yet, at least not until the song is over. Besides, you're quite enjoying the angle you have on his leather pants as he wiggles his bottom to the beat.
When he finishes, the crew applauds and blows on their noisemakers. He gestures at them with his hands and the clapping dies down. "Well my friends, you're about to witness my greatest illusion to date. I am shortly...in about..." He checks his watch. "Five minutes going to make the year, the century and even the Millennium disappear."
As the crowd laughs, you roll your eyes and finish the last of your cider, sitting the empty glass down on a nearby table. A look around the room shows you that most of the crew has paired up with their significant others awaiting the final moments of the year 2000. You can see Jonathan has maneuvered his way to Maddy's side and they are semi-cuddling down at the front of the stage.
Adam seems to have noted it as well. "Now hold on a minute. Something isn't right here. It looks like all of you have grabbed someone to ring in...or should I say kiss in the New Year with and I'm standing here empty handed." He blocks the lights with his hand and gazes out into the crowd in front of the stage. "Has anyone seen my wayward girlfriend?"
"Why don't ya just conjure one up then?" A man with a thick accent yells from the back. Much laughter erupts from the audience.
"Well normally that would be an option of course Joseph, but I'm afraid that this one was conjured for me by the Goddess Aphrodite herself and no mere mortal's magic, not even one as magnificent as I, could come close that kind of perfection."
As you are blushing mightily, a loud "Awwwwww," is heard in the room.
"Suppose I could make her materialize?" Jonathan yells up at his employer.
"I should be forever grateful."
"I'll expect my raise as soon as we start back to work next week then. Turn to your right you lovesick prat, she's been standing there the whole time."
Jonathan smiles and the whole room fills with laughter as Adam turns and looks right at you. You smile and wave up at him.
"It's time!" a woman's voice shouts from the group.
"10...9...8...7..." the audience begins counting down.
Adam comes over to you and lifts you onto the stage with him. The two of you join in with the crowd. "6...5...4...3..."
His arms come around your waist, holding you as close as possible. His mouth mere centimeters from yours.
"2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!"
His smile is beautiful as he closes the distance between you and presses his lips to yours. The kiss continues through a full rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" before he pulls back to look into your eyes.
"So," he whispers, "You think you can put up with me for a whole nother millennium?"
You loop your arms around his neck and smile. "Hmm....I'm not sure. Give me till the end of the century and I'll let you know okay?"
"Deal." He kisses you once again.
