Their conversation was sporadic at first, giving them the opportunity to wind down. Later, they wouldn’t be able to say who started the topic, or why they all continued it afterwards. In the end, it became a bit of a dare. Cordelia looked at the girls either side of her. "I’ll go first."
Willow decided to try to be the voice of reason. "Do you think we should? I mean, wouldn’t they be upset if they found out. You know what Xander’s like."
"Yeah. Like, I’m going to go to Xander and say ‘Hi Honey. While you were sitting that last exam, Willow, Buffy and I were comparing kisses.’ Come on. Aren’t you a little bit curious?"
Willow looked at the others. By the smile on Buffy’s face, she had no objection to it. "A-allright. But you go first."
"Okay. Xander tastes like - a sherbet."
"A what?!" Buffy wouldn’t have thought to compare Xander to a sherbet!
"You know. Sweet when it goes in, disappears all too quickly, but leaves a lingering aftertaste." The other two giggled at that. "Your turn Willow."
"Well, Oz tastes like - Cordial."
"Wow, how exciting!"
Willow frowned at Cordelia. "I like cordial. It quenches the thirst, comes in a multitude of flavours, you can have lots without getting bloated, and lemon cordial has a real ‘bite’ to it." They all laughed at the analogy.
"Your turn Buffy."
Buffy began to have second thoughts. Unlike the others, her honey was a bit too old to appreciate being ‘compared’. "I don’t know."
"You gotta! Cordy and I did. We won’t tell."
"Yeah, come on Buffy. I never thought you would be such a coward."
The challenge had been laid. What was a girl to do? "Well, you know on really cold nights, and you want to curl in front of a fire with..."
"A good book?"
"Stop interrupting Cordy! A cup of hot chocolate. The good kind, with full milk. And you put marshmallows in, and they’re soft but not melted."
"Not the marshmallows!" Willow could taste him -er, it, already.
"And then you add just a drop of brandy."
"Fine French Brandy?"
Buffy wondered how Cordelia knew the difference. "The finest." She had their attention now. "And when you take a drink, you do it through the marshmallows."
Silence reigned supreme for several seconds, each girl thinking over their conversation. Suddenly, Cordelia jumped up. "I need to, um, go get a drink! I’m so hot - I mean thirsty."
Willow stood beside her. "Yeah. Me too."
Buffy rose, and turned away from her friends. "Where are you going?"
"I need to, um, go get a - Rupert." And with that she moved hurriedly toward the library.
The other two looked at each other. "Awww."
