The drive from LA to Sunnydale found Buffy never once moving from her position, curled up against Giles' side. Her hand remained entwined with his, not even letting go long enough to allow him to shift gears with ease. She kept smiling up at him, not being able to help it. She couldn't remember the last time that she'd seen him look this happy. The fact that she knew she was the cause of that made her realize something else. She didn't remember the last time she'd felt this happy either.
The Citroen finally came to a stop on the street in front of Buffy's house. As Giles turned the car off, she leaned up, snaking her arms around his neck and pulled him to her in a passionate kiss. When they parted slightly, they were both smiling. Buffy ran her finger gently down the diagonal crease on his forehead. "Scar?"
"One of many," he whispered.
"Show me?"
"Buffy..." his heart was threatening to pump out of his chest.
"Come inside." She smiled and leaned toward him.
"No..." Giles couldn't get his explanation out fast enough to stop the crushed look from touching Buffy's face.
"Did I do something wro..."
"No no no, there is nothing I want in this world right now more than to go inside and...be with you."
"Then why won't you? Why can't we have this? We've been more than good about this. Why can't we just..."
"Because," he rested his forehead against hers, "because despite my youthful indiscretions, I was raised a gentleman. And a gentleman, when courting a lady, does not drag her off to the nearest bed before their first date."
She pouted. "Even if she asks him really really nicely?"
He leaned his head back and laughed. When he turned to her again, her eyes were sparkling in the darkness. "Buffy, if we're going to go through with this whole thing...being a...a c-c..."
"Couple." She smiled.
"Thank you. Couple yes." He too smiled and cupped her face with gentle hands. "If we're at the start of something, then I want to start it right. What are you doing tomorrow night?"
Buffy was beaming. "I don't know. What am I doing tomorrow night?"
"Well I would be very much pleased if you'd let me pick you up and take you to dinner. Then perhaps a film or dancing. Whatever you'd like."
"Around 8?"
"8 is perfect."
Buffy sighed. "A proper date?"
He nodded. "A proper date."
"Sure you won't change your mind and come in?"
His grin was gentle. "Buffy, you are many things. You are a warrior. You are the Chosen One, the Slayer. And you are my Love. What you don't realize yet is that you are also a Lady. I would be remiss not to treat you as such."
Buffy's gaze bathed him in adoration. Just when she didn't think he could make her feel happier or more special, there he went and did it anyway, just to prove he could. Unfortunately, it had the added side effect of making her want him even more. She bit back a whimper and decided to let him have his way...for now. She sighed again. "So I'll see you tomorrow at 8?"
"You will indeed."
"Kiss me goodnight?"
"Try and stop me." He moved forward and tasted her lips once more. After an hour of luscious kisses, Buffy waved goodbye from her front door as Giles drove into the night.
Buffy finished her unpacking and dialed Willow's number as she flopped down on her bed.
"Hello?"
"Will?"
"Hey Buffy. Are you at your Dad's?
"Nope. Home sweet Hellmouth for the Buffster."
"Already? What happened?"
"Well Dad was being...himself. Which is too bad and what therapists in my future will be thanking him for as they line their pockets with my hard-earned money. Giles came and got me though."
"He...he did?" Buffy couldn't miss the excitement in her best friend's voice.
"Yep."
"Did you make a decision yet?"
"Well..."
"Hey no more stalling. Don't make me have to kill you. What did you decide?"
"Giles and I are going on our first official and proper date at 8pm tomorrow night, thank you very much."
"YYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Buffy giggled and pulled the phone slightly away from her ear to allow Willow's exuberance a chance to die down. "I take it you approve?"
"Oh Buffy God! I'm so happy for you! For both of you! So he asked you on a date?"
"Well, I asked him to come in tonight. He refused, saying that I was a Lady and that he was going to treat me like one."
"Oh he's such a gentleman! He called you a Lady?"
"He called me a lady...and he called me his Love."
Willow's sigh filled the phone. "That's just so...it's so..."
"It was very so."
"How did it make you feel?"
"Loved. And very special. And incredibly horny!"
"Buffy!" The girls giggled late into the night.
The next evening, Buffy checked herself once more in her bedroom mirror. She wore a black velvet dress that hit her just above the knees. It had a straight cut that went up to a heart shaped neckline, showing off her bust to best effect without straying from the elegant. She adjusted the sleeves once again so that she wore them just barely off the shoulder. Her hair looked like spun gold, held in a French twist by delicate faux-diamond combs. A crystal tennis bracelet and earrings completed the ensemble. She slipped into her black velvet heels and grabbed a black shawl from her closet.
Within seconds, there was a knock on the front door. Buffy put her hand over her chest and took a calming breath before walking downstairs to answer it.
When she opened the door, Giles stood smiling before her. He looked stunning in a navy blue suit she had never seen before. "You're breathtaking."
Buffy curtseyed. "Ladylike?"
He produced a single white rose from behind his back and handed it to her. "In every way." She took it and stepped out onto her porch, locking her door behind her. He crooked his arm and she accepted it as he walked her to the Citroen.
"You look very dapper yourself there. So what's the plan for tonight?"
"Well, we have an 8:15 reservation at the Grotto. And it's open after that. Would you like to go dancing?"
"Maybe. Or maybe a walk along the beach." She was more than pleased to note the distinct flush that came over his face.
"Perhaps." He held her door open for her, shutting it after she got in. Giles walked to the driver's side and they were soon on their way to the restaurant.
"Giles?" Buffy lowered her menu and looked at her companion.
"Mmm? Are you ready to order?"
"Uh, not exactly. It might help if I could read it."
He lowered his own menu and smiled at her. "I thought you took French?"
She returned the smile and lowered her eyes. "Yeah, well taking it and passing it are two different things."
"Indeed. Well what do you like?"
"Chicken's good...and safe. Is there um, something chickeny in all of this?"
"A few things."
She folded her menu and glanced up at him. "Okay, then I'd like something chicken please." Giles signaled for the waiter to take their order. Buffy found her stomach doing flip-flops as he ordered their meals in French. She wasn't so sure she was going to be able to eat that chicken after all. It wasn't what she was hungry for.
"Buffy?"
When she focused on him again, she found the waiter and their menus gone. "Yes?"
"You seemed rather...distracted."
She blushed. "Sorry. I was just thinking."
They halted their conversation as their salads were brought out to them. When the waiter left, Giles cleared his throat. "If you don't mind my asking, what were you thinking about?" He took a good-sized bite of lettuce.
Buffy looked at him and sighed. "Well if you don't want to choke on your salad, we should probably save that for later."
Giles got a strange expression, and then allowed her words to lead him to that mental place where all his naked Buffy fantasies dwelled. As predicted, he began to choke a bit.
Buffy blushed again and lowered her head to hide her smile. Giles took a healthy gulp of water and wiped his mouth with a napkin. "I see your point."
Their food arrived soon after and the rest of the meal was passed in pleasant conversation. With no demonic topics allowed, the talk moved into light areas of music and films and a million other trivial things that almost covered for the fact that Giles' eyes were roaming over Buffy, as hers were doing to him, each noticing dozens more reasons to be in love with the other.
The check came in a folder with a leather cover. Buffy reached for it and Giles slapped at her hand, feather lightly. The smile that crossed her face was worth triple whatever damage the bistro had just done to his wallet.
Giles paid the bill and helped Buffy with her shawl. "Where would you like to go now?" His hand gripped hers as they exited the restaurant. His thumb was subconsciously rubbing circles on the back of her hand. She gulped. All she really wanted to do now was to go home with him, to finish what they had started on that beach on Prom Night. However, she was certain he'd refuse her again, that he'd tell her a "lady" didn't do the things she was thinking of doing on the first date, even if she'd known her date for years and was already crazy in love with him. She was starting to think that being a lady really bit.
"Dancing, if that's okay?" There was more than one way to spend the evening in his arms.
"That's perfect."
"That was a really bad idea." Buffy sat on a bench outside the nightclub, thankful for the coolness of the night air on her overheated skin. She'd picked dancing with the hope of some innocent cuddle time. But two hours pressed tightly to Giles' body with a pulsing sultry beat accompanying their movements had left her on the verge of fainting.
Giles sat beside her. "I'm inclined to agree with you." His jacket lay folded over the arm of the bench. His tie was undone and hanging loosely around his neck. The first two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing a sprinkling of hair beneath. She leaned her head against his shoulder, staring at his chest. He reached his arm behind her, resting his head atop her own. She turned closer against him, reaching one finger out and petting the exposed hair. His breath caught and he stood immediately.
"What?! What did I do?!"
He put his hands in his pockets and began to pace. "Nothing. You didn’t do anything. I-I just think I should probably get you home."
"Fine." Buffy stood and stalked over to his car.
Giles sighed and followed. 'This really was a bad idea.'
Neither spoke during the entire trip back to Buffy's house. When he pulled up next to the curb out front, Buffy was out the door and heading for the house before Giles could even stop the car. "Bloody Hell." He quickly turned off the engine, got out and started after her. She was on the porch, putting her key in the lock. "Buffy wait!"
"For what?!" She spun on him, fire in her eyes. "Giles I've been waiting! I thought that's what the past few weeks have been all about. Waiting." She lowered her eyes and took a deep breath. "Don't you want me?"
His hands grasped her upper arms lightly. "More than anything. How could you think I didn't?"
She met his eyes once more. "I don't care about being a lady Giles. I don't care if wanting you to make love to me right now makes me the biggest tramp that has ever..."
He pressed his finger to her lips. "Shh, don't ever say that." She kissed his finger and he shivered.
"Giles?"
"Yes?"
"I think you'd better take me inside. I'm about to do some very unladylike things to you and I don't think you want my whole neighborhood watching."
The tips of his ears flushed red and Buffy smiled brightly. She grabbed the loose ends of his tie in one hand as she turned her doorknob with the other. She led him inside and slammed the door shut.
Buffy shoved Giles up against the door and used her hold on his tie to bring his lips down to her own for a tender, leisurely kiss. He slipped his hands around her back, first pulling the combs from her hair and then lowering her zipper. He felt her smile against his lips, just before she pulled away. She blushed up at him as she moved the dress off her shoulders and then let it drop to the floor. She stood before him in a black strapless bra and black lace panties.
Before she knew what was happening, he had picked her up out of her shoes, swept her into his arms and was carrying her up the stairs to her bedroom. She moved her hands into his hair, holding him to her as her mouth plundered his own. He kicked open the door to her room and lay her quickly on the bed. As he leaned her against the pillows, he removed her bra and tossed it aside. He moved back off the bed, drinking in her beauty as she lay smiling, her long blonde hair fanned around her. She slid her hands down the sides of her body and hooked her thumbs into the waistband of her panties. He knelt on the bed once more, his hand over hers. "Wait for me Love." He carefully moved her hands to away from the garment, placing them to either side of her on the bed. He stood again and rid himself of his clothing, Buffy's eyes sparkling more and more with every inch of skin he exposed.
Giles climbed onto the bed, slipping his hands up Buffy's thighs and under her panties, pulling them teasingly slow down her legs. Once they were off, he lifted her ankle and placed it to the other side of him. He lay down between her legs, placing a soft kiss atop the downy hair there before sliding his tongue along the seam of her netherlips. He brought his hand up and used it to spread her, allowing his eager tongue greater access. His questing mouth found her clitoris, throbbing for his attention. As he answered its request, she began to thrash beneath him, moaning. He moved his hands up, pinning down her hips to still her. She quickly broke free of his grasp and began to move wildly again. Fleetingly, Giles thought that there would be no more embarrassing way to be killed than by having his neck snapped clean performing oral sex on his Slayer. Then she screamed his name as her orgasm overtook her and he decided it would be a glorious death indeed.
As Buffy came down, he gently kissed the inside of her thighs, making his way up to delight in kissing her mouth once more. "Oh God," she breathed. "That was worth waiting for."
"Be patient Love," he nibbled at her cheek and then soothed the marks with his tongue.
"There's more?"
He smiled at her. "There's a lifetime's worth. But for now..." He buried his mouth against her neck as his hand moved to massage her breast. When her movements again became restless, he guided himself to her entrance and pushed forward, giving them what they had both been waiting for for so long. He was so close that his pace was fast, nearly frenzied. Buffy, barely recovered from her first climax, caught up quickly. Soon the air was filled with twin sounds of pleasure as they found their bliss together.
When his legs stopped trembling, Giles rolled to Buffy's side. She threw her arm across his chest as he embraced her, settling in to sleep. "Buffy?"
"Mmhmm?"
"Mr. Gordo's looking at me."
